Highlights
  • U2-122S support two IDE (ATA/ATAPI) devices.
Introduction

USB-122S (Horizontal Type) is a USB 2.0 to EIDE bridge board featuring Acer Laboratories Inc. M5621 (High-Speed USB 2.0 to ATA/ATAPI Native Bridge Controller)

The USB-122S implements a bridge between one USB 2.0 port and one ATA or ATAPI based mass storage device port. This bridge adheres to the Mass Storage Class Bulk-Only Transport specification and is intended for self-powered devices.

Hardware design allows CBW command queuing, which allows data transfer rates of up to the USB theoretical maximum. The USB port of the USB-122S is connected to a host computer directly or via the downstream port of a USB hub. Host software issues commands and data to the USB-122S and receives status and data from the USB-122S using standard USB protocol.

Built-in USB2.0-to-IDE Interface Controller with general IDE interface & bulk-only transport of USB mass storage class support industry-standard 8/16-bit PIO/DMA & Multi-word DMA and Ultra Mode DMA modes 0-4 (upto UDMA66) for storage devices as DVD/CD-ROM, CD-R/W and Harddisk device, etc.

The ATA/ATAPI interface supports The device initialization process is configurable, enabling the USB-122S to initialize most ATA/ATAPI devices without software intervention.

Benefits
  • Enables quick penetration of USB 2.0 markets
  • Complete backward compatibility
  • Leverages ATA/ATAPI peripheral economies of scale

Applications

To turn your SCSI enclosure into USB 2.0 Enclose
NOTE: USB-122S is for Enclosure with Internal Power Supply.

This allows peripheral vendors a unique opportunity to continue the advantage of the ATA/ATAPI economies of scale while presenting USB-122S into the rapidly expanding USB 2.0 markets. It also can replaces the slow & expensive SCSI device with cheap & fast EIDE device. SCSI Enclosure vendors using the ATA/ATAPI devices now have an immediate and no-risk solutions for adding USB 2.0 interface to their product lines.
